Program:

1. Freedom – Georgian National Anthem (2 min) - Music by Zacharia Paliashvili (1871–1933), adapted by Ioseb Kechakmadze (1939–2013).

Georgia’s national anthem written by the great Georgian composer Zacharia Paliashvili and adapted by Ioseb Kechakmadze, the anthem is both a musical and emotional tribute to the country’s independence and cultural identity.

2. Suliko (3 min) - Music by Barbare (Varinka) Tsereteli (1872–1948). Suliko (Georgian: სულიკო, meaning “soul”) is both a personal name and the title of one of Georgia’s most iconic love poem. Written by Akaki Tsereteli in 1895 and set to music by Barbare (Varinka) Tsereteli, it is sometimes considered an unofficial anthem of Georgia. This version will be performed instrumentally, allowing the music to speak with its own lyricism.

3. Selections by Giya Kancheli – approx. 20 min - Composer: Giya Kancheli (1935–2019). A selection of some of Giya Kancheli’s deeply moving instrumental works, capturing his signature blend of tenderness, nostalgia, and drama. Known as Georgia’s most prominent contemporary composer, Kancheli wrote extensively for both concert stage and film, with his music for Georgian cinema and theatre becoming iconic for its haunting lyricism and emotional depth.

4. Sentimental Tango (2 min) - Composer: Vazha Azarashvili (1936–2024). A tender and evocative miniature tango by Vazha Azarashvili, one of Georgia’s most beloved contemporary composers, whose works range from symphonies to film scores.

5. Verdenslyd tango (5 min) - Composer: Umut Talay. A spirited new work blending the passion and rhythmic drive of Argentine tango with Georgian melodic colors, creating a unique cross-cultural musical dialogue. Umut Talay, a composer and violinist of Ensemble Verdenslyd, is a young musician recognized for his compositions and performances across Denmark’s contemporary music scene.

6. Hiyaz Wind (10 min) - Composer: Umut Talay. A newly composed work inspired by Georgian musical traditions, blending contemporary harmony with the colors and modal beauty of Georgian folk music.

7. Gandagana (4 min) - Traditional music from Adjara, Georgia. A lively dance melody traditionally performed as a courtesy dance in Georgia’s southwestern Adjara region. Its rhythmic vitality and energy set a joyful tone for any performance.
